The scope of BBR | IBB reflects a fundamental/integrative research character, serving as a platform for the exchange of knowledge through the publication of original articles, reviews and case reports. The diversity of the topics of our articles reflects the many ways, from classic to creative to cutting-edge, to support the various needs of human health. These topics include
- Education, Behaviour, Lifestyle and Well-being
- Nutrition and Food Sciences
- Pharmacology, Therapeutics and Toxicology

At the Editor's discretion, research papers on more applied topics may be included.
BBR | IBB seeks to promote the application of research in everyday practice and particularly values open science and interdisciplinary collaboration. IBB | BBR welcomes articles with translational potential on biomedical and biopharmaceutical issues, favouring research centred on new insights into structural issues with an impact on health policies and systems, new molecules (natural or synthetic) with the potential to address major disease problems, or new insights into processes around disease mechanisms with a potential impact on diagnostics and/or therapeutics.
Competing Interests
Editors do not receive any salary for their work at BBR | IBB. Even so, Editors are required to declare all relevant competing interests and are excluded from participation in the review of any submission for which they have a competing interest.
Publication Fees
BBR | IBB does not charge any costs or fees for the submission and publication of manuscripts by Portuguese-speaking authors. For other authors, an English version is sufficient for submission. However, BBR | IBB does not accept automatic translations (Google Translate, DeepL, others), which means that the Portuguese version will be the direct responsibility of the Editorial Office. In this case, a fee will be charged to ensure this purpose (please see [+ here] under "Submission and publication costs").
Ethics and Good Publication Practices
BBR | IBB fully assumes all its ethical duties and responsibilities at all stages of publication. Our editorial options and policies are detailed [ + here ].
Publication priorities and decisions are made taking into account the quality, originality and usefulness of the manuscripts submitted. However, we are aware that more inclusive policies are needed to change the imbalances recognised in biomedical publications. BBR | IBB is continually committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, a concern addressed by a constant demand for authors and editors from smaller or developing communities, particularly in ‘Lusophone’ countries. The same awareness has shaped the expansion of equity and equality (gender, religious, social, cultural, racial) of our editorial board.
