Luís Monteiro Rodrigues, Editor-in-Chief, Executive Director, ALIES

Academic career starting at U.Lisboa (Fac. of Pharmacy and Fac. of Medicine - Institute of Physiology) where he got his PhD (1992). Professor of Human Physiology and Physiopathology / Mechanisms of Disease at the University of Lisbon and the Lusófona Group, whose staff he has integrated since 2012. Currently is the Director of the School of Health and the connected Research Center CBIOS (part of the national scientific and technological network - FCT) at Universidade Lusofona.  

Regarding research his preference is centred in Cardiovascular Physiology and in particular in the adaptive mechanisms of micro and macrocirculation. Showing an extensive list of publications and communications, multiple distinctions and awards, including editorial coordination of international journals in his areas of expertise.

Founder and current chairman (2022-) of the Portuguese Society of Physiology.

 

Alda Pereira da Silva Oliveira, MD, MS, PhD, U Lisboa School of Medicine and Universiy Clinic of Family and General Medicine (PRT)

Graduated in Medicine from U.Lisboa (1982), specialist and consultant in General and Family Medicine (1998), with the title of European Specialist Clinical Hypertension in 2001. Master in Bioethics from the U.Lisboa (2003), Doctor in Health Sciences from the U.Alcala (Spain, 2017 and Doctor in Medicine from the U.Lisboa (2018). She is a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, where she runs the University Clinic of General and Family Medicine. She has published more than 100 articles and presented numerous papers at international conferences in her areas of expertise.

 

Ana Sofia Fernandes, Lusofona (University Center of Lisbon) / CBIOS - Res. Center Biosciences & Health Technologies (PRT)

Graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2004) at ULisboa (FFUL), where she obtained  her PhD in Toxicology in 2010. European Registered Toxicologist title since 2018. 

Professor at U Lusófona (School of Health) since 2008, IP and Scientific Director for Innovation of CBIOS (Research Center in Health Sciences and Technologies at U Lusófona). Here she has been specially dedicated to the cellular processes related to tumor development and the metastatic process. She is the author of more than 50 scientific articles and 100 communications, and has also editorial experience in several international scientific journals in her area of expertise.

Antero Abrunhosa, U Coimbra, ICNAS - Institute of Applied Nuclear Sciences for Health (PRT)

Degree in Biochemistry (1992) and MSc in Biomedical Engineering (1996) from U. Coimbra, with PhD studies at the PET center of Hammersmith Hospital (UK, 2002). 

Founder and current Director of ICNAS (www.uc.pt/icnas) where he directs the Radiochemistry and Radiopharmacy Laboratory. Member of Group 14 (radiopharmaceuticals) of the European Pharmacopoeia, he is an expert of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in several technical committees and international missions and a trainer at the ESMIT (European School of Multimodality Imaging and Therapeutics) of the European Agency for Nuclear Medicine (EANM) in Vienna. He currently has active patents in Europe, the United States and Japan on the production of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals.

 

António Raposo, U Lusófona (University Center of Lisbon) / CBIOS - Res. Center Biosciences & Health Technologies (PRT)

Graduated in Nutritional Sciences in 2009 and completed his PhD in Animal Health and Food Safety in 2013 (University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain). He is an Integrated Member of CBIOS and Professor at Universidade Lusófona, Lisbon. His main research interests are Food Safety; Food Innovation and Natural Food Products. He was invited by several institutions as a speaker and published more than 170 articles indexed in the JCR Web of Science, more than 100 communications at international conferences. Author of a registered patent. Editor of several internationally recognized journals such as Archives of Public Health (BMC); Advances in Public Health (Wiley); Sustainability (MDPI); International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (MDPI); Nutrients (MDPI); PLOS ONE (Public Science Library), he is also an active member of various science and non-profitable organisations.

 

André Rolim Baby, Pharmacy Department, FCF, U São Paulo (BRZ)

Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo (FCF-USP). Has over 130 scientific articles published in national and international journals. He held a post-doctoral fellowship at the CBIOS of the Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa. His research interests include photoprotection and "sunscreens non-sunscreens", nanotechnology applied to this class of preparations, "ex vivo" skin antioxidant potential, safety and efficacy related to sun protection and other cosmetic attributes.

 

Carmen Brás-Silva, Department of Surgery and Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto; Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Porto

Degree in Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Porto (1999) and PhD in Human Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto (2007). Specialty in Clinical Nutrition, Portuguese Order of Nutritionists (2022). Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Mobility Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Porto. Director of the Master Degree in Clinical Nutrition, Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Porto. Member of the board of the Portuguese Society of Physiology (Secretary). Researcher at the Associated Laboratory RISE - Health Research Network and at the UnIC - Cardiovascular R&D Centre. Current research interests mainly focus on integrative cardiovascular physiology, particularly the study of pharmacological and nutritional modulation of cardiopulmonary pathophysiology.

 

Catarina F Rosado, U Lusófona (University Center of Lisbon) / CBIOS - Res. Center Biosciences & Health Technologies (PRT)

Graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences by U Coimbra, and PhD by Cardiff University in Pharmaceutical Technology. Teacher at the School of Health at U Lusófona since 2004, coordinating several units of graduate and post-graduate education, and coordinator of the Master in Health Products and Food Supplements of this university. IP of CBIOS with interest in transdermal therapy and development of methodologies for evaluation of efficacy and safety of products for cutaneous application. She has published numerous scientific publications and communications, and is a member of the editorial board of some scientific journals and a referee of reference publications in her field. She is founder and board member of the Portuguese Society of Cosmetological Sciences.

She is currently Vice President of the Scientific Council of the School of Health (2022-).

 

Cíntia Ferreira-Pego, Cíntia Ferreira-Pego , U Lusofona (University Centre of Lisbon) / CBIOS - Res. Center Biosciences & Health Technologies (PRT)

Graduated in Human Nutrition and Dietetics by Universitat Rovira i Virgili (2010), and Master in Training and Sports Nutrition by Universidad Europea de Madrid (2012). PhD with International Mention in Nutrition and Metabolism from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, and the University of Arkansas (2016). Lecturer and Researcher at Universidade Lusófona since 2019, focusing on epidemiological research of the relationship between dietary patterns, body composition, and metabolism. Author of several publications in international journals, and experience as an editor in several international scientific journals. 

 

Debora Columbari, UNESP School of Dentistry, Department of Physiology and Pathology S.Paulo State University Brazil

PhD in Physiology and Behaviour (1999) Master in Pharmacology (1995) and Bachelor in Pharmacy (1992) from São Paulo State University. Full Professor at the Physiology and Pathology department from 2023. Her research interests lie in the role of the central renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and the regulation of blood pressure fluid and electrolyte balance that occur in different pathophysiological situations, also focusing  the neural pathways and mechanisms responsible for cardiovascular and electrolyte balance alterations during an increase in plasma osmolarity. Authored more than one hundred articles indexed in the JCR Web of Science, and presented many communications at international conferences. Editor of several internationally recognized journals such as the American Journal of Physiology, she is also an active member of various science and non-profitable organizations.

 

Edileia Bagatin, Department of Dermatology, Federal University of São Paulo, São Paulo (BRZ)

Graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medical Sciences Sorocaba-Pontifícia U Católica of São Paulo (1979), Master in Dermatology (1985) and PhD in Health Sciences (1994) from the Paulista School of Medicine / Federal University of São Paulo, EPM/UNIFESP . 

Extensive career as a dermatologist including the Secretary of State of Health / SP (1982-2001) and Ministry of Health, São Paulo / SP, Darcy Vargas Children's Hospital - INAMPS (1984-1992). Professor at the Dermatology Department of EPM/UNIFESP, with special research interest in Cosmiatry. She has published more than a hundred articles, mainly in international journals of the specialty and is part of several Technical Boards in related areas. https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7190-8241.

 

Fernando Fernandez-Llimos, UCIBIO | Lab. Pharmacology, Department of Medicinal Sciences, University of Porto (Faculty of Pharmacy)  

PhD in Drug Research and Development, with particular focus on Drug Information, from the University of Granada (Spain). Graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Complutense University, Madrid). Current research interests focus in drug information, with special emphasis on evidence generation, and analysis and design of clinical pharmacy services.

 

Hélio Daniel Ribeiro Rocha, Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde, Department of Nature, Life and Environmental Sciences - Praia Campus (CPV).

PhD in Tropical Diseases and Global Health from the New University of Lisbon (2021), Master in Public Health from the Aggeu Magalhaes Research Center in Brazil (2014) and post-graduation in Science for Development from the Gulbenkian Institute of Science in Portugal (2016). Professor at the Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde where he coordinates the course of Clinical Analysis and Public Health and the Master in Public and Community Health. He has extensive academic and professional experience in the fields of his specialty, and also leads the Research Group on Tropical Diseases of this University, with special interest in arboviroses and other vector-borne diseases.

 

João Gregório, U Lusofona (University Center of Lisbon) / CBIOS - Res. Center Biosciences & Health Technologies (PRT).

PhD in International Health, by the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (IHMT). Graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences (U Lisboa) Master in Health and Development. Current position as Auxiliary Researcher at CBIOS - Research Center in Biosciences and Health Technologies and lecturer at Lusófona University . 

Regarding research, developed work on new pharmaceutical services and on the use of information technologies to provide new and better health services in the context of primary and specialized health care (Digital Health). He is the author of more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the editorial board of two international journals in his area of expertise and has served as guest editor of three special issues in international journals.

Specialist in Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology. Associate Professor of Medicine at NOVA Medical School, Lisbon, Portugal, Chairman of the Autoimmune Diseases Study Group of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine, Chairman of the ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network) Expert Committee and member of the EBIM (European Board of Internal Medicine). Director of the Department of Internal Medicine and of the Systemic Immune-Mediated Diseases Unit at Fernando Fonseca Hospital, Amadora, Portugal. Head of the Immune Response and Vascular Diseases Research Group at NMS Research.

 

José Geraldo Mill, Universidade Federal Espírito Santo (UFES)Dep. Physiological Sciences. U Hospital 'Cassiano Antônio Moraes', Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brasil

PhD in Pharmacology from the Ribeirão Preto Medical School of the University of São Paulo and graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), Vitória, Brazil,  (1975). Currently Full Professor in the Department of Physiological Sciences at UFES collaborating  in Medicine and Pharmacy undergraduated and postgraduate courses (Masters and Doctorate) in Physiological Sciences and Public Health as well. He is also a CNPq Associate Researcher (I-A). Co-coordinator of the Longitudinal Study of Adult Health - ELSA-Brazil.

 

José Roberto Santim, CEUA/UNIVALI, University of Itajai Valley.

Graduated in Pharmacy-Biochemistry from the Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina (2006), Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Universidade do Vale do Itajai (2010), area of Natural Products and Bioactive Substances and PhD in Sciences from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP, 2013), area of Toxicology and Toxicological Analysis. 

Professor at the University of Vale do Itajaí (UNIVALI) in the School of Health Sciences, acting in the Postgraduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Master's / PhD). His research focuses on the mechanisms involved in controlling leukocyte migration to inflammatory foci, the action of xenobiotics on the body's responsiveness to trauma and the pharmacological and toxic mechanisms of new molecules or natural products for therapeutics. 

Current President (2022-) of the Brazilian Society of Toxicology (SBTOX).

 

Marilia Silva Paulo, Research Fellow; NOVA Medical School - Comprensive Health Center | U Nova Lisboa (PRT)

PhD in Health Polices and Development from NOVA University Lisbon, Portugal. Expert in Health Services Research, Health Workforce development and Environmental/Occupational Health. Current interest in  environmental and occupational health exposures and advance health information systems. Part of the Population Health Information Research Infrastructure (PHIRI) project from the European Commission. Member of several committees and international networks such as the Climate Change and Public health Research Network from the Ministry of Environment of the UAE, the Coordination and Harmonisation of European Occupational Cohorts (OMEGA network) and of the Population Health Information Research Infrastructure project from the European Commission.

 

Patrícia Dias de Mendonça Rijo, U Lusofona (University Center of Lisbon) / CBIOS - Res. Center Biosciences & Health Technologies (PRT).

Graduated in Chemistry from the University of Lisbon (FCUL) with a Masters and PhD in Pharmaceutical and Therapeutic Chemistry (FFUL).  Lecturer at the School of Health at U Lusófona since 2001 and Director CBIOS (Communication). Here, her research has been focused in medicinal chemistry, phytochemistry and pharmacognosy, with particular emphasis on the chemistry of natural products.  Published over eighty papers in international journals and has more than two hundred communications (oral and panel) presented in national and international meetings and conferences. She holds two international patents.

Patricia Maia Campos, Full Professor – FCFRP Universidade São Paulo (BRZ)

Graduated in Pharmacy, with master's and doctor's degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of São Paulo - USP (1993). Full Professor at the University of São Paulo. She has published over 100 scientific articles in indexed journals, 8 book chapters and 8 patents, besides 300 papers reported in scientific events and multiple lectures given. She has extensive experience in development and clinical efficacy studies of cosmetic formulations using advanced biophysical techniques and image analysis, 

Science consultant in the public sector - CATEC/ANVISA, in the productive sector in renowned cosmetic companies and member of the Technological Council of ABIHPEC.

 

Rejane Giacomelli Tavares, CCQFA - Federal University of Pelotas (BRZ).

Graduated in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1996) and in Biomedicine from FEEVALE (2008), Master in Biological Sciences: Biochemistry (2000) and PhD in Biological Sciences: Biochemistry (2005) from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. She is also a specialist in Clinical Analysis (1999), and in Clinical Assay Monitoring (2021) with relevant professional experience in Clinical Analysis and validation of methodologies/analytical equipment.

Professor at the CCQFA of the Federal University of Pelotas, developing research related to chronic noncommunicable diseases (dyslipidemia, diabetes and metabolic syndrome), oxidative stress and evaluation of the effect of natural products in these pathologies. She has more than 70 articles published in national and international journals and is a reviewer of several journals.     

 

Sérgio António Rodrigues Chicumbe, National Health Institute (INS) Directorate of Health and Well-being Research, Mozambique

PhD in International Health (specialty in Health and Development Policies), from the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Nova de Lisboa University (Portugal). Master´s in Public Health and Tropical Medicine (James Cook University, Australia). Graduated in Medicine (Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique). Over 20 years’ experience in the health sector, as a Clinician, Public Health, Health Policy and System Research at Instituto Nacional de Saúde (INS) - www.ins.gov.mz. Sergio chaired the INS Institutional Review Board and is INS’s Health System Principal Investigator, was Director for Surveys and Health Observation and is currently the Director for Health Research and Well-Being.
